Kikuyu content creator Wajoy nearly collapses while viewing late mum’s body
By Steve Ireri, October 31, 2025Kikuyu content creator Joy Mathenge, alias Wajoy, was overcome with grief at the Tumutumu Hospital on Friday, October 31, 2025, as she came face-to-face with the body of her mother, Mary Wangui Mathenge, before it was transported to their rural home for burial.
In a live stream shared on her Facebook page, Wajoy was seen wailing uncontrollably and struggling to stay on her feet as she approached the open coffin.
At one point, she nearly fell forward, but fellow content creator Dada Sarah quickly stepped in, holding her tightly to prevent a collapse. Despite her efforts to maintain composure, Wajoy’s grief was palpable, her cries echoing across the room as she stared at her mother’s still form.
The viewing was filled with moments of shared sorrow, as family members and other attendees wept openly, unable to contain their emotions. The air was thick with grief, punctuated by heartfelt sobs and murmured prayers.

The ceremony began with members of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Women’s Guild guiding attendees, followed by family members and members of the public paying their respects.
Mary, a devoted member of the PCEA Church, was honoured by several church leaders, including a reverend who delivered a sermon from the mortuary to the family home, celebrating her life and faith.
Untimely demise
Wajoy confirmed the news of her mum’s passing in a post on social media on Friday, October 24, 2025, revealing that her mother passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
In her post, WaJoy recalled that her mother had appeared in one of her skits about two weeks ago and mourned how untimely her death had been.
“Aki, this was 2 weeks ago, Mum. She was a vibe. Anytime I did a video with her, she would say. Oh my God, they will see me in this video and the way I look,” she wrote.
She described her mother as a vibrant presence who would always comment on how she looked and worry about being seen in the videos, while Wajoy reassured her that she would appear because she was her mother.
Wajoy expressed that she loved her mother deeply and acknowledged that God had done His will, asking her mother to rest in peace.
“Mum, you know I loved you,I still do, and God has done his will, Mum. Rest mum rest,” she added.
