Kikuyu artistes grace Gachagua’s Wamunyoro home for a weekend meet-and-greet

By , September 6, 2025

A section of Kikuyu content creators and singers on Saturday, September 6, 2025, graced the Wamunyoro residence of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua for an exclusive meet-and-greet that combined music, conversation, and fellowship.

The gathering brought together some of the community’s most notable talents, including content creator Mbote Njogu, actress and singer Wanjiru Wa Maya, DJ Dibul, mugiithi singers Tony Young and Waithaka wa Jane, as well as TikToker Samuel Githaiga, alias Githaiga Wa Chai.

In a video shared by Mbote Njogu on Facebook, the artistes could be seen strolling through the expansive gardens of the Gachagua home, the sun illuminating the greenery as laughter and conversation filled the air.

The artistes appeared relaxed, exchanging stories of their work in music, social media, and entertainment, and appreciating each other’s craft.

Mbote moved around the expansive home, greeting the artistes while playfully performing a skit in which he pretended the residence belonged to him.

He jokingly asked each guest if they were comfortable and how they were enjoying the meet-and-greet, adding a light-hearted energy to the gathering.

In his clip, Wanjiru Wa Maya posed gracefully beside the “I Love Wamunyoro” white signage, while one-man guitarist Waithaka wa Jane engaged with a fellow singer on the neatly manicured lawn, exchanging smiles and conversation.

Elsewhere, singer Tony Young appeared visibly elated as he caught up with colleagues, while DJ Dibul stood slightly apart, beaming with excitement as he observed the others enjoying themselves, taking in the joyful atmosphere around him.

Later, the gathering moved to a gazebo for a formal sit-down and lunch with former deputy president Gachagua and his family.

TikToker Githaiga Wa Chai later shared a photograph on his Facebook page of himself posing with Pastor Dorcas Gachagua while expressing his delight at the warm reception and the chance to meet her.

Creative exchange

Following the visit, Gachagua reflected on the creative exchange, noting that the morning had revived a debate he first encountered in the 1980s at the University of Nairobi’s Literature Department.

He observed that while one group, led by Prof. Chris Wanjala, argued that a great work of art is defined by content, another, led by Prof. Henry Indangasi, insisted that form, the manner of expression, is of greater importance.

He added that he had always believed that how a work of art is presented carries more weight than what it conveys.

“In the 80’s at the University of Nairobi’s Literature Department, there was a great debate on what defines a great work of art. One group led by Prof. Chris Wanjala emphatically argued that a great work of art was informed by CONTENT or rather, what you say.  On the other end, Prof Henry Indangasi led the group that said a great piece of art is FORM rather than how you say it. I was of the view that a great work of art is FORM, not CONTENT; How you say it is greater than what you say,” Gachagua wrote on Facebook.

The former deputy president also said that the visiting artistes demonstrated this principle through their craft. He noted that the way they package and deliver their work often supersedes the content itself, highlighting the power of presentation in creative expression.

“This morning, a team of our great artists and content creators visited me at the Wamunyoro residence, and we revisited the debate over FORM and CONTENT over breakfast.  I have successfully persuaded John Waithaka Mwangi aka Waithaka wa Jane, Anthony Kamau aka Tonny Young, Dickson Degwa, aka DJ Dibul, Samuel Mbote Njogu, Felister Wanjiru Nyoike aka Wanjiru wa Waya and Samuel Githaiga that how they package their works of art supercedes what they create. The debate continues,” he added.

Githurai event

The meet-and-greet came just hours after the artistes had graced Githurai for an event hosted by popular city businesswoman Damaris Muriithi, popularly known as Dama Wa Mobile Spares.

The gathering saw the full roster of performers in attendance, with Dama expressing delight at the enthusiastic support she received.

Among the artistes present were Samidoh, Wanjiru Wa Maya, singer Tony Young, one-man guitarist Waithaka wa Jane, DJ Dibul, actress Komanda, and Kameme FM presenter Muthoni Baby Top, among others.

A notable moment of the event was the performance of Mugiithi singer Martin Wa Janet. Despite the hundreds who had attended, his set was met with jeers, boos, and the waving of hands in rejection, leaving the singer facing the harsh reality of a crowd unwilling to engage with his performance.
