Kameme FM’s Gatonye Mbugua wins coveted male presenter of the year award
By Steve Ireri, November 15, 2025Kameme FM breakfast show host Gatonye Mbugua has been crowned Male Presenter of the Year at the prestigious Starbrands East Africa 2025 Awards, capping a year of exceptional performance in broadcasting.
Mbugua was presented with the award at a gala dinner held on the night of Friday, November 14, 2025.

In a post on Facebook on Saturday, November 15, 2025, Gatonye expressed deep gratitude to his fans and colleagues, reflecting on the journey that led to the recognition.
He revealed that he had searched his heart for the right words to express his appreciation, but felt that no words could fully capture his emotions.
“I’ve searched my heart for the right words, but none feel enough,” Gatonye wrote.

He thanked his audience for the love and warm messages, noting that the accolade was proof that late nights and early mornings in his work had paid off.
“Thank you all for the love and warm wishes. Proof that late nights and early mornings pay off,” Gatonye added.
Mbugua then acknowledged that being named Male Presenter of the Year was a blessing he did not take for granted.
He pledged that the award would serve as motivation to continue improving, serve his listeners better, speak with greater clarity, and stand firmly for the issues that matter.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you! Being crowned Male Presenter of the Year is a blessing I don’t take for granted. May this be a reason to serve better, speak clearly, and stand firmer for what matters. Mungu mbele,” Gatonye wrote.
He also reminded his fans to continue engaging with his platforms, closing his reflection with a note of faith and gratitude.
“Keep engaging with my pages, guys,” he wrote.

In recognition of his achievement, Mbugua was presented with a trophy and a certificate.
The certificate, signed by Starbrands CEO John Bensons, recognised him for his enduring charisma and compelling presence, highlighting his success in hosting one of the most popular vernacular breakfast shows and his ability to connect with millions of listeners daily.

Key wins
Gatonye’s win comes just days after his colleague Muthoni Wa Kirumba, popularly known as Muthoni Babytop, was crowned the Female Radio Presenter of the Year at the 2025 Starbrands Awards.
The celebrated broadcaster, who commands a huge following across the Kikuyu airwaves, received the honour during the Starbrands Awards ceremony held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Sarit Centre and Expo in Nairobi.
Muthoni emerged as the top performer in the competitive category, cementing her place as one of the most influential female voices in Kenya’s radio industry.
After receiving the award, she credited her loyal listeners for the recognition, saying the milestone belonged as much to them as it did to her.
In a post she shared on Facebook on Monday, September 15, 2025, she noted that their unwavering support, daily engagement, and trust were the driving forces behind her continued success.
“Congratulations to My Beloved listeners 💕for being Awarded. The Best Radio Presenter Of The year 2025! May this well-deserved recognition be the beginning of even greater accomplishments in our career journey together. This win Is For You! We keep shining and raising the bar in the industry,” Muthoni wrote at the time.
