Jalang’o reminds Bahati of his gospel vow amid song backlash

The song, whose explicit video and bold lyrics have divided opinion, quickly trended across social media, with fans and critics questioning whether the former gospel star has strayed too far from his roots.
Reacting to Bahati’s response after facing backlash, Jalang’o reminded him of the vow he made to God when he was still an upcoming gospel musician.
“Shakara bobo matakoresanababa!!! Mungu sitakuwacha and other stories!!” Jalang’o reacted.
Bahati’s promise
During the 2015 Groove Awards, Bahati, who had won, spoke in tongues and promised God that he would not ditch the gospel industry after his victory.
“Enyewe kitu mimi naweza promise, na na promise mbele ya world, God sitawai kuwacha,”Bahati promised.
Diana’s reaction
After Bahati released his controversial song, Diana Marua distanced herself from her husband’s latest musical direction.
In her official statement on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Diana stressed that she is fully committed to her personal ventures.
“I know many of you have seen the recent conversations and content around Bahati. While I respect his journey as an artist and the choices he makes for his career, I want to be clear that my focus is different,” Diana said.
She explained that her priorities remain her businesses, partnerships, and the brands that trust her. According to her, this requires her to carry herself in a way that reflects responsibility, growth, and the values she believes in.
Diana pointed out that her decision is rooted in the need to respect her family, her partners, and the people who look up to her. She said that while she supports Bahati’s journey as an artist, she will not involve herself in the music direction he has recently taken.
“I am fully committed to my businesses, my partnerships, and the brands that trust me. That means carrying myself in a way that reflects responsibility, growth, and the values I stand for,” she added.
“Out of respect for my family, my partners and the people who look up to me, I will not be involved in the direction Bahati has recently taken in his music.”
She said that her brand is important to her and she must protect it. To her, this also means being intentional about the kind of content and spaces she aligns herself with.
Diana highlighted that her supporters and brand partners expect her to carry herself with dignity and to reflect growth, which is why she is setting clear boundaries.
