Githeri Man resurfaces, begs Kenyans to help him buy a car

Martin Kamotho, widely known as the Githeri Man, has come out publicly for the first time after the 2017 general elections, calling on Kenyans to help him buy a car.

In an interview with a local YouTuber in a video released on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the viral Githeri man has revealed challenges he is currently facing while calling on well-wishers to come to his rescue.

While making his appeal, he noted how he desires to drive a motor vehicle, hence requesting Kenyans to help him buy a car.

Maisha ya hapa is not good. Mimi naweza taka mnisaidie badala ya kuendanga miguu. Mtu anasemanga, ‘Aah, si siku moja nikue na gari,'” the Githeri man pleaded.

Likewise, Githeri Man also had a message for the 4th President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, whom he acknowledged for honouring him with the Head of State Commendation (HSC) and also a token of appreciation of Ksh100,000 from the then President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Uhuru is my friend; nashukuru kwa kunipatia HSC. Hakuna mahali ashawahi niacha,” he stated.

He also added, “Ata akiniita nikuje si nitafurahia,” he added.

Githeri man’s first debut

Githeriman made his first public appearance in the limelight during the 2017 general elections, where a photo of him queuing to vote while holding a bag of githeri circulated online, attracting various audiences, including international ones.

On the election day, Kamotho, then 41, woke up at midnight so he could be among the first voters to cast his vote at the Imaara Primary School in Dandora.

However, when he arrived at the polling station on August 8, 2017, he discovered he had been outshone by a number of his neighbours who had risen up quite early as well for the democratic process; hence, the moment marked the beginning of his tedious day.

It was in the long queue and a tedious day for Kamotho that he was spotted holding a bag of githeri while still standing in the queue waiting to practise his democratic right to vote.

A photo then emerged of Mr Kamotho holding the polythene bag of githeri, munching his githeri quietly while minding his business and occasionally stretching his neck to see how far the queue had gone.
