Fridah Mwaka breaks silence after friend’s domestic abuse story goes public
By Cynthia Lodite, July 31, 2025Journalist Fridah Mwaka has shared a heartfelt message on gender-based violence after her close high school friend came forward with a harrowing account of abuse.
The seasoned Journalist wrote the heartfelt message on Thursday, 31 July, 202,5 on her Instagram account while recounting their high school friendship with the victim.
According to Fridah, her close friend, whom she revealed as Nyambura Mburu, recently shared her story of abuse and violence, which broke her heart as a dear friend to Nyambura.
‘Never like imposing myself into people’s personal affairs. Never. But this one was this one has hit way too close to home,” stated Frida.
Likewise, while addressing the gender based violence issue, the journalist firmly noted Nyambura’s personal story, stating that violence and the pain that came to her should never have been hers to live.
“I saw pictures & video of my high school friend @nyamburamburu brave enough to share her story of abuse, of violence, of pain. A story that should never have been hers to live. And my heart broke,” highlighted Fridah.
On the other hand, Fridah went ahead and highlighted the instances her high school friend had gone through multiple abuses, further noting that the instances were repeatedly done to her.
In addition, Fridah revealed that her long-time friend believed that enduring the pain would somehow save her marriage, hence the reason as to why she stayed put during the moments.

“This is what she has been through repeatedly based on her report, and how, in her own words, she thought that enduring the pain would somehow save her marriage. She was hopeful,” revealed Fridah.
Fridah and Nyambura old days
On the other hand, while condemning gender based violence, the journalist revealed that during their high school days, Nyambura and her were such a force and a powerhouse so fierce.
She also added that they were girls with dreams, who stood tall and bold with loud voices, passionate about public speaking.
“I know @nyamburamburu I know the #Nyambura who once stood tall and bold.
We were girls with dreams, with loud voices, with passion. We were deep into poetry, public speaking back then in high school.#Nyambu was a powerhouse.👌 So fierce. So confident. One time, she was crowned,” noted Fridah.
While condemning the act, she further noted that no man or woman should trade their dignity in the quest to save a marriage in the name of love.
“No woman or man, I believe, should ever have to trade his or her dignity for a marriage. No woman or man should have to bleed in silence to “keep his/ her home.”
Nobody should be broken in the name of love!” said Fridah.
