Eric Omondi emotional after visiting Mama Ida and viewing Raila’s grave

Comedian Eric Omondi was left emotional after paying a visit to the widow of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga, Mama Ida, at her residence on Thursday, October 23, 2025.

In a video he shared on Instagram, Eric is seen warmly greeting Mama Ida outside her palatial home before engaging in a long and reflective conversation with her.

The two appeared deeply moved as they spoke, with Eric gently comforting her amid what remains a season of immense grief for the Odinga family.

The comedian was dressed in a simple black tracksuit and T-shirt, symbolising mourning and humility, while Mama Ida wore a flowing white gown, exuding calmness and grace as they shared a moment of emotional connection.

After their conversation, Eric proceeded to visit Raila’s grave at the Kang’o ka Jaramogi.

He stood quietly before the tomb, his head bowed, as if in silent intercession for the departed leader.

The video, which Eric accompanied with a soulful song that spoke of peace and divine assurance, stirred deep emotions among his followers.

Raila Odinga was laid to rest on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, his ancestral home in Bondo, Siaya County.

The private ceremony, attended by national leaders, family members, and a small circle of close allies, marked the final chapter of a historic life.

According to cultural customs observed during the ceremony, Raila was buried with two of his most iconic items, his trademark hat, known as Ogudu in Luo, and a ceremonial whisk, referred to as Orengo.

In the Luo tradition, such items are symbols of leadership, wisdom, and dignity. The whisk, often carried by elders and respected figures, signifies authority and continuity, representing the enduring influence of the departed in the spiritual realm.

During the final rites, the Kenyan military also presented the national flag to Mama Ida in recognition of Raila’s lifetime of service and sacrifice for the nation.

Raila Odinga died on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

He passed away at the age of 80 while receiving treatment at the Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital and Research Centre in Koothattukulam, Kerala, after suffering a sudden cardiac failure during his morning walk.

He was rushed to Devamatha Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death at 9:52 a.m., despite prolonged attempts to resuscitate him.
