Emotions ran high on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, as friends, fans, and fellow content creators gathered to view the body of popular comedian Zacharia Kariuki, alias KK Mwenyewe, ahead of his burial.

The emotional viewing was led by his close friend and collaborator, Kafengo, who was part of KK’s inner circle.

In a TikTok video that has since gone viral, Kafengo could be seen being held by the shoulder by a friend as he fought back tears, overwhelmed by the heartbreaking moment.

The atmosphere turned even more emotional when KK Mwenyewe’s mother approached the coffin to view her son’s body.

Overcome with grief, she began wailing loudly, calling on her son to wake up. Two people on either side held her tightly as she wept uncontrollably, unable to accept the painful reality of her firstborn’s passing.

Her cries filled the room, leaving many mourners deeply moved as they waited for their turn to pay their final respects.

The black coffin, which was partially open at one end, allowed attendees to view KK’s body in turns. Each person approached in silence, many breaking down in tears as they looked at the young comedian who had brought so much joy through his content.

The emotional gathering was a testament to the impact KK Mwenyewe had on his fans and the entertainment industry, with many still struggling to come to terms with his sudden death.

KK Mwenyewe, who rose to fame for his comic skits imitating former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, passed away on the night of July 14, 2025, at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital after a brief illness.

Burial plans

KK’s burial plans were officially announced on July 19, 2025, by Kafengo.
