Dyana Cods teaches Ruto ‘Set It’ challenge days after apologising for supporting him
By Steve Ireri, August 9, 2025Dancehall singer Dyana Cods, on Saturday, August 9, 2025, met President William Ruto at State House and shared a moment of rare camaraderie as she taught the Head of State how to execute her viral ‘Set It’ dance challenge.
In a Facebook livestream by the Head of State, the 23-year-old artiste, clad in a long blue wig and a black flapper skirt, could be seen captivating youths who had gathered for an empowerment programme at State House with a performance before inviting President Ruto to the podium.
That was when she momentarily paused her act and began guiding him on how to fold his hands and bend his knees with finesse, in order to perfect the signature move of the popular challenge that emerged from her collaboration with Buruklyn Boyz’ Ajay.
The President, who stood beside Governor Johnson Sakaja, could be seen beaming as he eagerly followed Cods’ moves, the crowd erupting into wild cheers at the unexpected display of light-hearted unity.

Change of tune
The dance moment came only days after the rapper left her fans stunned when she went down on her knees during a performance at Zetech University to apologise for previously expressing support for President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza regime.
In the viral video, the rapper could be seen kneeling mid-performance and expressing deep regret for having made posts that aligned with the Head of State when the majority of youths were opposed to his administration.
“I want to apologise to everyone; I love you all. I am sorry for the words that I said that hurt you. I love my fans so much; I choose you over any president. I choose you any day. Have you forgiven me, or have you not forgiven me? I love you all; please forgive me,” she said as the crowd watched intently.
In a post shared on her Instagram in July 2025, the rapper had stated that she did not understand why so many people harboured such dislike for the president.
“I do not understand the hate. May God protect him. I love my president, and I stand by that,” she wrote, igniting a storm of online backlash.
At the time, she had added that what many youths who supported the president failed to realise was that it was better to have a leader with bad governance than to have no leader at all.
“Just know a country with bad governance is better than one with no governance. You cannot change the current leader, but you can change the coming generation of leaders.”
Following her post, fans reacted with outrage, with some even calling for a mass unfollowing, leaving her with no option but to quickly claim she had been joking.
However, none of her statements seemed to pacify the angry netizens, given that the country was still in the tense aftermath of the Saba Saba protests that had shaken the nation.
