Dr Ofweneke warns bosses about secret WhatsApp groups created to gossip them
By Paulette Mboga, August 26, 2025MC and TV host Dr Ofweneke has amused his fans with a humorous but thought-provoking observation about workplace culture.
In a light-hearted message, he told bosses and employers to accept a simple truth — no matter how senior they are, their staff likely have a secret WhatsApp group where they gossip about them.
Ofweneke explained in an Instagram post on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, that in every company or organisation, bosses often create official WhatsApp groups for communication. However, what many may not know, he noted, is that employees usually create another hidden group, strictly reserved for candid conversations about their leader.
“If you know you are a boss, or you run an organisation or company and have staff that work under you, just know there is a WhatsApp group that you created, and then there is a secret WhatsApp group created to discuss you,” he said with his signature humour.
The comedian went on to describe just how detailed and specific such conversations can get. “My brother, my sister, just know there is a WhatsApp group created to gossip about you — how you eat, how you talk, and phrases you use when you are angry. So ukiongea kama bossy, ujue kuna WhatsApp group yako. Staff wako wanakusengenya,” he teased.

Ofweneke even added that he, too, is not exempt from this reality. “Mimi yangu ni gani? One day I will know,” he joked, suggesting that even his own staff may be secretly discussing him in a private group.
Though the remarks were shared in jest, they highlight a very real and relatable aspect of workplace dynamics. Employees often use such platforms to express frustrations, share jokes, and build solidarity, with bosses sometimes becoming the central topic of these conversations.
Dr Ofweneke’s comments resonated with many because they touched on the universal truth that gossip is part of human interaction, especially in structured environments where hierarchies exist. By presenting the issue in a comedic way, he not only entertained his audience but also offered a gentle reminder for bosses to stay self-aware and not take themselves too seriously.
