Backlash

Her hit song, which she sampled from the late legend E-Sir’s old school song, has attracted backlash from both top entertainers and ordinary Kenyans, with many accusing her of disrespecting the legend’s memory.

Apart from being accused of disrespecting E-Sir’s memory, netizens have also made fun of her rapping skills and choice of words in her lyrics.

Notably, arbuntone rapper VJ Patelo publicly criticised the track, leading to a heated exchange between the two on social media.

Diana’s response to critics

Rather than ignoring the criticism, Diana chose to respond in a light-hearted manner. She shared a viral meme video of a woman breaking an audio CD so that the music can stop.

The meme is often used online to express frustration when a song has been overplayed or disliked. Diana reposted the clip, this time attaching it to her new music, with the caption: “Drop a comment; we love to hear from you.”

Her move was interpreted by many as a playful acknowledgement of the backlash while at the same time inviting engagement from her fans.
