Diamond Platnumz and Ommy Dimpoz advise Tanzanians blaming govt to work harder

Tanzanian artistes Ommy Dimpoz and Diamond Platnumz have called on citizens who are constantly criticising the government to redirect their energy towards hard work instead of blame.

Speaking after hanging out on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Ommy Dimpoz stressed that individuals should take responsibility for their own success, saying everyone must focus on winning their own battles and avoid wasting time on accusations.

He noted that progress comes through effort and not through pointing fingers.

“Everyone should win their own matches. Do your work and stop the blame game,” Ommy said.

Diamond Platnumz echoed the same sentiment, stating that Tanzanians have made it a habit to complain with every new leadership cycle, yet rarely stop to reflect on whether the problem lies with governance or within themselves.

He said there has been a culture of blaming each administration without self-examination, adding that those who constantly advise citizens to indulge in complaints are misleading them.

“Every leadership you complain, every regime you complain. You must reflect whether the problem is the leadership or it is you. Every era you are still complaining. Those people who advise you foolishness, now you complain every time,” Diamond said.

He questioned whether such critics should be given the mandate to run the country themselves, stressing that nothing in life comes for free.

He highlighted that even fellow artistes such as Marioo and himself achieve success through relentless work, including the effort invested in releasing music.

Diamond reminded citizens that without work, there can be no reward, insisting that those who do not work should not expect to eat.

“Should we give them the country so that they lead it instead? Nothing here is for free. Marioo has nothing for free. Even releasing music, we work for it, so do your work. Whoever does not work should not eat,” he said.

Their remarks come amid a wave of Tanzanian celebrities openly backing President Samia Suluhu and her Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party ahead of the October 29, 2025, general election, where she is seeking to retain her seat.

CCM has already demonstrated its dominance after sweeping the 2024 local elections with 99 per cent of the vote, and the president was endorsed earlier this year as the party’s flag bearer without internal opposition.

The political landscape has tilted heavily in favour of the ruling party after the main opposition, CHADEMA, was disqualified from the race, while ACT-Wazalendo’s candidate Luhaga Mpina was also barred over nomination issues. With key challengers out of the contest, analysts say President Samia faces little resistance as she pushes her re-election campaign.

The campaign period officially began in August, though critics have raised concerns about shrinking political freedoms and the detention of opposition figures.
