Dennis Ombachi makes magic happen for daughter’s birthday at fishless Lake Elementaita

In a post on his X account on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the former rugby star organised a lakeside party at Lake Elementaita, where he prepared an impressive feast despite the lake having no fish.

Ombachi, known to many as The Roaming Chef, said his daughter had asked for fish by the lake for her birthday. Not wanting to disappoint her, he made it happen by grilling fish by the water, alongside kienyeji chicken, nyama choma, and Sasha’s favourite chicken noodle soup.
“Every dad dreams of being his daughter’s superhero, and for Sasha’s special day, that meant making the impossible possible. She asked for fish by the lake, unaware that Lake Elementaita holds no fish. But no loving father lets his little girl’s dreams die by the lakeside. So I made it happen, grilled fish by the lake, Kienyeji chicken, Nyama Choma, and her favourite chicken noodle soup. Because when it’s your little girl’s birthday, ordinary just won’t do,” Ombachi stated.
Ombachi, a former Kenya Rugby Sevens player, represented the country in several international tournaments, including the 2016 Rio Olympics.
After retiring from rugby, he turned his passion for cooking into a successful online career, gaining millions of followers across platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
In 2022, he was recognised as one of TikTok’s top creators in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Away from the spotlight, Ombachi is a devoted family man. He is married to Svetlana Pokikarpova, and together they have two children, Sasha and a younger son.
