Content creator Kabugi mourns Bilal Wanjau: ‘He moulded me into who I am today’

Content creator Kabugi has paid an emotional tribute to the late Bilal Wanjau, reflecting on how the late media personality and actor played a pivotal role in shaping his career.
In a statement on his social media platforms on Thursday, December 4, 2025, Kabugi revealed that before meeting Bilal, he was struggling to make a mark in both the comedy and content creation industries.
“I was no one in the comedy industry. I was no one in content creation. I was funny, yes, but I hadn’t made it,” he said, recalling the early days of sending DMs to prominent figures without much hope.
He revealed taking a bold step in 2021 and messaged Bilal Wanjau, along with Kibunja from Tahidi High, expressing his interest in collaborating. To his surprise, Bilal responded positively.
“Shock on me,” he replied. He even came to JKUAT to shoot without any allowance. I didn’t give him money for anything, not even fuel. And he even gave me ideas for content to shoot,” Kabugi recalled.
The content creator emphasized the lasting impact Bilal had on his professional growth.

“I know people say give flowers when they’re alive. I already did that; I posted, and I even told him physically. Bro, you did me good, and I will never forget. He is among the people who moulded me to be this persistent.”
“Bro, Bilal Wanjau, may your soul rest in peace wherever you are. Whatever you gave me, I hope to pass it on to another person.”

This comes a few hours after actress Sandra Dacha confirmed the passing away of Wanjau on Thursday, December 4, 2025, while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital due to diabetes-related complications.
“It is with profound sorrow that I announce the untimely passing of my colleague Bilal Wanjau this early morning due to diabetes complications,” Sandra announced.
Sandra expressed deep sorrow while announcing his death, noting that the industry has lost one of the best in the Kenyan film industry.

“Bilal was a GREAT TALENTED ACTOR! We have lost one of the BEST in the industry,” she stated.
She further disclosed that burial arrangements have already been set and that Wanjau will be laid to rest on Friday, December 5, 2025, at his rural home in Machakos.
“Burial date is set for Friday (tomorrow), 5/12/2025, at his rural home in Machakos. Kindly keep the family in your prayers,” she said.
“May God rest his soul in eternal peace.”
