Entertainer and outspoken political commentator Cassypool has pledged a cash reward to Harambee Stars players after their historic 1–0 win over DR Congo in the ongoing CHAN tournament on Sunday, August 3, 2025.

Taking to his Instagram page, Cassypool commended the players for their spirited performance and the pride they brought to the nation.

In recognition of their efforts, he announced that he would be giving each player a token reward of Ksh500. While the amount may appear modest, Cassypool emphasised that the gesture was meant as a heartfelt appreciation rather than a measure of wealth or prestige.

“Congratulations vijana wetu, you guys have made us proud. This is the first time we have won here in our country. So mimi nataka kuwapea Ksh500 each, hii ni kama appreciation for making our country proud,” Cassypool said.

He addressed critics who might downplay the significance of the reward, urging Kenyans to focus on doing their part in supporting the national team rather than criticising those who step up. Cassypool also said he would reach out to Harambee Stars’ coach and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohamed to ensure the money is delivered to the players.

“Wewe uko nyumbani unaweza ona hii ni pesa kidogo, lakini wewe kama Mkenya umefanya nini kuwasupport ndugu zetu? Nitamtafuta coach wa Harambee Stars, FKF President Hussein Mohamed tuwapelekee hiyo mia tano tano,” he added.

His public show of support adds to the growing wave of national pride and gratitude being expressed toward Harambee Stars after their impressive performance.

Ruto’s huge bonuses

Cassypool’s gesture came just hours after President William Ruto surprised the national team with a personal visit to their locker room moments after their win.

“Nitawapanga… si mimi ndio Commander?” he joked with the players during his surprise visit, drawing laughter and cheers in the locker room.

He then directed FKF President Hussein Mohamed to collect the bonuses from the State House the next morning, ensuring there were no delays in fulfilling the promise.

The Head of State had earlier hosted Harambee Stars for a breakfast meeting in Nairobi ahead of the tournament, where he promised each player and member of the technical staff Ksh1 million for every win and Ksh500,000 for a draw.

He also pledged additional incentives: Ksh60 million if the team reached the quarterfinals, Ksh70 million for the semifinals, and a record-breaking Ksh600 million if Kenya won the entire tournament—some of the highest bonuses ever offered to a Kenyan sports team.

Harambee Stars are now preparing for their next CHAN match against Angola, scheduled for Wednesday, August 7, 2025.
