Babu Owino splashes Odongo Swag with money during Luo Festival
By Aloys Michael, August 10, 2025Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino caused a stir over the weekend after splashing cash on popular Ohangla musician Odongo Swag during the highly attended Luo Festival in Nairobi on Saturday, August 9, 2025, night.
The vibrant event, which drew thousands of fans, turned electric as Odongo Swag took the stage with his signature energy and crowd-thrilling performance. Just moments into his set, the crowd erupted in cheers as Babu Owino made his way to the front, flanked by his entourage.
The flamboyant legislator, known for his dramatic flair and connection with youth culture, took to the stage as Odongo Swag performed his hit songs to a charged crowd. Amid cheers and chants from fans, Babu pulled out wads of money and began raining cash on the visibly excited artiste in a show of support and celebration of Luo music and talent.
The Luo Festival, known for celebrating music, fashion, and cuisine from the Luo community, drew thousands of attendees and remains a key event on Kenya’s cultural calendar.

Babu’s festival message
In a statement on Saturday, 9, 2025, Babu urged the community to embrace and safeguard their cultural heritage, noting that traditions form the backbone of unity and identity.
“Currently attending the annual Luo Festival at Uhuru Gardens. Let’s embrace and preserve the pride of our traditions, uniting as one community in love and strength,” the statement read.
The annual event organised by Lang’ata Member of Parliament (MP) Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, attracted an impressive 16,000 attendees.
Taking to his Instagram Stories as the event went down to share the milestone, the MP celebrated the overwhelming support from fans.
“16,000 strong… This is Luo Nation,” Jalang’o captioned a video of Prince Indah performing to the massive crowd that sang along to his songs.
The festival featured top Luo musicians, DJs, and cultural displays.
The attendees enjoyed performances from Iyanni, Javan Macajudo, Khaligraph Jones, Okello Max, Coster Ojwang, John Junior, Musa Jakadala, Osito Kale, Odongo Swag, Prince Inda, Tony Nyadundo, and Emma Jalamo (final performance), with DJ Joe Mfalme entertaining them for the rest of the event.
