Actress Winnie Bwire honoured with candle lighting ceremony on her 1st anniversary
By Valerian Khakayi, September 6, 2025Family and friends of the late Kenyan actress Winnie Bwire, widely known by her past acting name Dida, gathered to honour her memory with a candle lighting ceremony, marking exactly one year since her passing.
Bwure,who lost a brave battle with breast cancer, was remembered as a resilient woman whose spirit continues to inspire those she left behind.
In a statement shared on her foundation’s Instagram account on Friday, September 5, 2025, her loved ones described the past year as a painful journey of adjusting to life without her, with many admitting that her absence still feels like a bad dream.
They added that although she departed physically, her spirit continues to linger among them every day, making it impossible to forget her because of the many marks she left behind and the warm love she gave to humanity
“Winnie, today marks exactly one year since you left this world to be with your Creator. This followed a gallant fight against breast cancer, which you unfortunately lost. Since then, it has been a very painful daily struggle to adjust to life without you being around,” the statement read.

“It still feels like a bad dream that has refused to go away. However, the stark reality is that you went and we shall never see you again. Winnie, although you went physically, your spirit still lingers among us every day.”
In the glowing tribute, they said it was impossible to forget Winnie because of the many marks she left behind and the warm love she showed to humanity.
“It is impossible to forget you even for a moment because of the numerous physical marks that you left behind not to mention the warm love that you showered to humanity,” the statement reads.
The candle lighting ceremony not only paid tribute to her life and legacy but also reaffirmed the vow by her loved ones to carry forward her mission of compassion and service.

Bwire’s death
Bwire passed away on September 5, 2024, while undergoing cancer treatment in Turkey. She had been battling the disease for some time and had appealed for financial assistance shortly before her death.
“It is with heavy hearts and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce Winfred Bwire Ndubi lost her battle to cancer on September 5, 2024, while undergoing treatment in Turkey,” the family announced.
“We thank you all for your overwhelming support, prayers, and generous giving during her treatment. We will share more details in due course. God bless you all, Winfred Bwire Ndubi’s family.”
