Popular film producer-director Philip Karanja, who is known for his witty humour, has added a touch of light-heartedness to the ongoing protests against the Finance Bill 2024.

Phil carried a placard that read ‘Bado sijapona and I’m on my 2nd divorce with the government.’

The director, who recently announced his divorce from Kate Actress, made a bold statement with his humorous sign as he joined fellow Kenyans on the second day of demonstrations.

Phil’s placard quickly became a highlight of the protest scene, drawing attention and laughter from onlookers and participants alike.

The photo of his unique sign which was shared on his Instagram account on June 20, 2024, garnered significant traction and reactions from his followers.

Amidst the serious tone of the protests, Director Phil’s comic relief served as a moment of levity, showcasing his ability to find humour even in challenging times.

As the protests continued to unfold, Director Phil’s memorable placard stood out as a symbol of both personal experience and collective activism, demonstrating the power of humour in making a statement and sparking conversations within the community.

Phil and Kate’s actress relationship

Phil’s public stance on the protests comes roughly almost a year after he and actress Kate Kamau, aka Kate Actress, separated.

The couple, who were officially married for over five years and later welcomed their first child, announced their split in September 2022.

During a joint statement on their Instagram stories, both Phil and Kate revealed that they had ended their marriage a while back but chose to keep it private.

“We came to a conclusion to end our marriage a long while ago and separated. We sincerely request everyone to honour our wishes for privacy for us and our children. Signed Kate and Phil,” the statement read in part.

Soon after their separation, Karanja made a public announcement on Instagram asking for privacy, so that she could move forward with her life.

“Hii ni Mambo ya watu wawili, but allow us to add you to the group chat kidogo, so we can proceed with our lives bila story mob. Kate and I remain as friends, co-parenting and business partners,” Phil said.
