Finance Bill

On Thursday, June 21, 2024, 204 MPs voted to approve the Finance Bill passed to the second reading stage against 115 who rejected it amid the protest against the tax proposed in the Bill.

A second reading is the stage of the legislative process where a draft of a bill is read a second time. In most Westminster systems, a vote is taken on the general outlines of the bill before it is sent to the designated committee.

The Bill now proceeds to the Committee of the whole House for consideration of proposed amendments.
