Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday night mourned Matungu MP Justus Murunga, who succumbed to diabetes complications at the St. Mary’s Mission Hospital in Mumias, Kakamega County on Saturday night (November 14).
Murunga had just returned from a one-week COVID-19 treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, when he collapsed at his Matungu home. The lawmaker was rushed to St. Mary’s Mission Hospital, where he passed on.
“We are heartbroken by the death of Matungu MP Justus Murunga Makokha. He was a focused, hardworking and visionary leader who relentlessly advocated for the empowerment of the people,” said DP Ruto, a close friend of the Late legislator.
“A development-oriented titan who was dedicated to public service, Mheshimiwa Murunga was steadfast, amiable and loving.
“We will miss his firmness, wise counsel and vibrancy to unite and transform Western region. Our thoughts and prayers to the Makokha family, their loved ones and the people of Matungu Constituency. Rest in peace, Mheshimiwa,” said Ruto.
The deputy president was, on several occasions in the past, pictured with Murunga at different political rallies in Western Kenya.
