Hashim Dagane Muhumed alias Hashim Mohamed Khalif on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, denied killing four Eastleigh women in October 2024.
Muhumed is accused of killing the women in two counties; Machakos and Nairobi.
Hashim denied all four charges when he appeared before High Court Judge Justice Kanyi Kimondo virtually from the Nairobi remand where he has been since December 2024.
According to the charges, Hashim is said to have carried three of the four murders in one night, one in Machakos county and two in Nairobi county.
In the first count,Hashim is accused of murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code, that on the night of October 21, 2024 and October 22, 2024, he killed Dahabo Daud Said alias Waris at Kyumbi area within Machakos county.
In the second count, Hashim is accused of murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code that on the night of October 21, 2024, and October 22, 2024, in the Parklands area within Nairobi county, he killed Amina Abdirashid Dhahir.
He is accused of killing Musayba Abdi Mohamed contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code that on the night of October 21, 2024 and October 22, 2024 in Parklands area within Nairobi county, in the third count.
On the fourth count, the accused is said to have murdered Deka Abdi Noor Gorane, contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code on the night of October 29, 2024, and October 30, 2024, at Valley Heights apartment in Nairobi.
Hashim, through his lawyer Akinyi Owino who was holding brief for the suspect’s counsel Ms Muyoka, asked for lenient bail terms.
However, Justice Kimondo directed the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to serve the defence with an affidavit opposing the bail within one week, adding that the defence is free to reply to the DPP on the same.
“The DPP to serve the defense with the affidavit opposing bail within the next 7 days.The defense will be at liberty to reply to that affidavit before the next mention date on February 11, 2025,” Justice Kimondo directed.
Kimondo also directed that the trial of the case will take place on February 11, 2025, and it will be conducted by Lady Justice Muigai virtually.
Hashim was arrested early November, 2024, and was in police custody until December 24, 2024, when the High Court took over and remanded him at the Nairobi Area Remand and Allocation Prison awaiting to be formally charged after the ODPP informed the High Court of its intention to charge the suspect with murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204.
