Police have linked a person of interest in the murder of three women to another incident where the remains of a badly mutilated body were discovered at Lang’ata cemetery.

Hashim Dagane Muhumed, who was arrested on November 3, 2024, is believed to be involved in the Lang’ata cemetery incident after they revealed CCTV footage showing a person, they suspect to be Muhumed leaving an apartment in Lavington with nylon bags.

“Detectives investigating the recovery of a badly mutilated body found dumped at Langata cemetery on 31/10/2024 have recorded a major breakthrough that has lifted the lid on the activities of Hashim Dagane Muhumed, the prime suspect in the tragic murders of a mother, her daughter, and her 12-year-old niece,” police said.

Lang’ata cemetery incident

Police have now linked the disappearance of a lady identified as Deka Abdinoor Gorone on October 29, 2024, to Muhumed after reviewing CCTV images from Quickmart supermarket in Nairobi and those of the apartment in Lavington.

“Armed with crucial leads, the detectives have established that the lady was in the company of Hashim Dagane, who was residing in the said apartment where the duo spent time before Dagane was on 31/10/2024 captured leaving the apartment carrying two bags suspected to have contained the remains of the victim that were later in the day discovered at Langata cemetery,” police added.

According to the police, the owner of the house Muhumed had rented is believed to have repainted it after discovering what had happened. He is said to have gone into hiding after the incident and police are hot in his trail.

Forensic analysis

The body of the woman whose remains are still undergoing forensic analysis was discovered in Lang’ata cemetery where they noted that the bones appeared to have been boiled and flesh meticulously removed.

“The bones appeared as if they had been cooked because they were very dry, suggesting another human being might have eaten them,” Lang’ata OCPD Ben Barasa said.

At the time of the discovery, police also revealed that they had yet to establish the gender of the victim.

Muhumed was arrested on November 3, 2024, and detained awaiting arraignment on November 4, 2024, at the Makadara Magistrates Court.
