Protester’s arrest

The anti-government protester, Peter Njogu was arrested today early morning in the streets of Eldoret town.

Speaking to the media, Njogu says that he was arrested for buying the national flag and a whistle.

He further stated that during the arrest, one of the police accused him of wanting to overthrow the national government.

Naitwa Peter Njogu mimi nimeshikwa tu pale nilikuwa nimenunua bendera na virimbi na nikashikwa. Wameniambia nabadilisha serekali,” he said.

Kununua bendera na kupuliza kipende changu na simu yangu wamenishika, hakuna kitu wameniambia mpaka saa hizi. Wameniambia niingie hivi kuna maswali fulani wanataka waniulize. Sijui kama wataniachilia.”

Karua on the demos

Karua commended the young generation for fearlessly demanding accountability from the political leaders.

She further added that the Gen Zs have succeeded in bringing the national government and political class in check in a way that the veteran politicians have struggled to achieve.

“I am incredibly grateful to witness Gen Z in Kenya reclaiming our agency and fearlessly demanding accountability from political and religious leaders, succeeding in ways we, as politicians, have struggled to achieve,” she said.

The ongoing anti-government protests being witnessed countrywide come after a series of notable victories from the previous protests.

President William Ruto, refraining from making into law the controversial Finance Bill 2024 and dissolving of the cabinet are among the issues Gen Zs demanded during the previous protests.

Despite these concessions from the government, the youths remain unsatisfied. In this week’s fresh demos, the protesters are demanding accountability of the leaders in the Kenya Kwanza administration,  fighting corruption and finding solutions to the country’s economic crisis.
