Jamaican-American singer and songwriter Gramps Morgan has joined the bandwagon of famous artistes mourning former Kenya’s popular radio host and DJ Mary Njambi Koikai.

Famously known as Jahmby Koikai alias Fyah Mumma, the 1986-born reggae DJ lost battle after a struggle against endometriosis.

Morgan, a two-time Grammy Award-winning best reggae artiste, mourned Koikai and wondered why the best leave so early.

A great soldier for the culture will be missed in Sweet Kenya. RIP SISTA FYAH MUMMA. Why do the good ones leave so early?” Morgan, who resides in Nashville, Tennessee, posted on his X account.

Morgan joined a long list of popular celebrities in the country who expressed their sorrows following Jahmby’s death, which occurred on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

Christone Odhiambo, who is a veteran reggae DJ known as Kriss Darlin, Njugush, DJ Shiti, DJ Xclusive, and DJ Double Trouble are among the celebrities who mourn Koikai.

Jahmby suffered a long battle with the disease and, in 2015, had her lung collapse from thoracic endometriosis. This is a rare manifestation of the disease, and this condition would recur repeatedly, forcing Koikai to undergo several surgeries.

Battle against endometriosis

As Jahmby underwent her journey against endometriosis, she kept posting her photos on her social media accounts, keeping her fans updated on every recovery step.

One of the most moving photos shared by the reggae DJ was one that showed her upper body heavily bandaged with many tubes running along the right side of her chest.

She underwent surgeries at specialised hospitals in the US.

Described as a gynecological condition, endometriosis is associated with menstruation, where tissue similar to the lining of the womb develops in other areas, including the fallopian tubes, pelvis, bowel, vagina, and intestines.
