Youths carrying Kenyan flags filmed en route to JKIA
By David Nthua, August 21, 2025A live feed from Kameme TV has captured a number of youths carrying Kenyan flags en route to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
In the video captured on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the youths could be seen walking with determination even as police in various formations beefed up security in anticipation of Rigathi Gachagua’s arrival.
Youths speak out
Speaking to the media, one of the visibly energetic youths introduced himself as Malakwe Karundi from the Pipeline area, saying they had turned out to welcome their leader, Rigathi Gachagua.
“Kwa majina naitwa Malakwe Karundi, mkaaji wa pipeline area. Nimekuja hapa kupokea kiongozi wangu Rigathi Wa Gachagua.
“Kufika hapa tunapata mapolisi washamwagwa, hawataki sisi kama wakenya tumlaki mkenya mwenzetu. Mimi nashangaa, hii serikali ya William Ruto, kama wanafanya walio mema mbona sisi wanakataa tukimpokea kiongozi wetu Gachagua juu tunaelewa saa chache anaenda kutua hapa JKIA.
“Mimi ningeomba serikali, muangalie zile vitu mnafanya, si Gachagua pekee anaumia. Ndani ya ile ndege kutakua na abiria wengine kule ndani, kwa hivyo mkidivert hiyo ndege jueni kuna watu wengine hapo ndani.
“Ata mpeleke Rigathi Gachagua hadi Kisumu ama Mombasa mjua pia uko ni Kenya na atalakiwa.”
Police on high alert
The heavy deployment of security officers around JKIA, including anti-riot units, has stirred speculation that authorities are keen to prevent crowds from accessing the airport grounds.
Despite the presence of police, groups of young men and women could be seen waving flags and chanting as they marched toward the facility.
The development comes amid heightened anticipation of the former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens’ Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua’s return from the United States.
His allies have already promised to mobilise tens of thousands of Kenyans to give him a heroic reception, with processions expected to spread into Nairobi’s central estates and towns.
Authorities, however, have cautioned that no illegal gatherings will be tolerated and urged supporters to remain peaceful.
Also, there have been unconfirmed reports that police might be forced to make arrests if the reception of Gachagua turns chaotic.
