Wambugu mocks Gachagua’s promise to nominate loyal bloggers as MCAs
By David Nthua, November 7, 2025Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has told Kenyans they indeed do not know who Rigathi Gachagua really is.
Through a post on Facebook on Friday, November 7, 2025, Wambugu reacted sharply to remarks made by the former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua.

In his Facebook post, Wambugu laughed off Gachagua’s reported promise to nominate youths who defend him and his party online, saying such claims should not be taken seriously.
“Gachagua promises to nominate bloggers who defend him online as MCAs. No wonder there are so many people reacting on my page!
“But I would advise anyone doing this to also insist on getting paid on this side of the election first. Hiyo promise ya nomination ni stori za jaba,” Wambugu wrote.

His remarks came after Gachagua, while speaking at the DCP Youth League forum at the party headquarters on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, promised to reward young people who help popularise the party both online and offline.
What Gachagua said
During the forum, Gachagua endorsed a proposal from the party’s youth wing leader, Wanjiku Thiga, to exempt youth aspirants from paying nomination fees for the 2027 elections if they could prove commitment by recruiting new members into the party.

“I agree with the formula that will have an exemption for you not to pay nomination fees, but only if you prove that you are a serious candidate by enrolling members into the party; then we know you are serious,” Gachagua said.
He further stated that DCP’s nomination exemptions would only apply to serious and active youth members.

He also hinted that youths who effectively champion the party’s cause online would be prioritised for nomination slots, saying such “online warriors” play a key role in spreading the party’s message.
Gachagua added that in counties where the DCP secures at least 50 per cent support, half of the nomination slots for County Assembly seats would be given to young people.

The former Deputy President’s remarks have since triggered mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans questioning the credibility of such promises, while others defended the idea as a way of motivating young people to participate in politics.
