Former Roots Party presidential running mate Justina Wamae has slammed the government over duplication of roles, which she argues has been meaningless in the chaotic floods witnessed in Nairobi City.

On her part, Wamae has further called out the Nairobi County Government for neglecting city drainage, which she argues blocks just two hours after a heavy downpour.

Wamae, who took to her official X account on Saturday, October 2, 2025, after a heavy downpour was witnessed in the city on Friday, October 3, 2025, accused the Nairobi County Government of employing thousands of contractors, yet the situation still remains the same.

“Nairobi city drainage is blocked after only two hours of rain. Be reminded the same county employs 100 thousand plus thousands of contractors,” Wamae wrote.

In addition, the former Roots Party presidential running mate lashed out at the national government agencies KURA, KeNHA, and KEERA for working on the same roads maintained by the Nairobi County, which she argues is a clear duplication of roles.

“Additionally, the same roads have a dedicated KURA, KENHA, and KEERA maintenance contractor. Talk about duplication of roles,” Wamae wrote.

Mosiria remarks on floods

Wamae’s remarks follow Nairobi County Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria, who recently issued a warning to property owners, contractors, and garbage collectors whose actions have been blamed for worsening flooding across the capital.

In a video shared on X on Saturday, October 3, 2025, Mosiria said the county government will begin demolishing all illegal structures built on drainage systems, riverbanks, and road reserves.

He said such developments have blocked the natural flow of stormwater, resulting in severe flooding that has affected homes, businesses, and key transport corridors.

“If you have an illegal structure on top of a drainage system, start removing it because we are going to demolish it,” Mosiria warned. “We will arrest and prosecute anyone causing public disturbance or blocking drainage lines.”

The environment chief also defended Governor Johnson Sakaja, saying some Nairobi residents were quick to criticise the county government online while contributing to the same problems they complain about.
