Roots Party leader George Wajackoyah has revealed that he recently turned down an offer from President William Ruto for a minister position.
Speaking during the burial ceremony of Henry Ongoma, brother of former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, on Saturday, July 13, 2024, Wajackoyah expressed his discontent with Ruto’s administration.
“I have been offered to be a minister. Nilipigiwa simu juzi. Nimeambia Ruto, ‘pack your position, give it to whoever wants it and go to hell with it. I don’t give a damn. I’m very bitter today,” Wajackoyah declared.
Ruto fires his cabinet
Wajackoyah’s revelation comes days after President Ruto sent his cabinet packing sparing the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking from State House, Nairobi on Thursday, July 11, 2024, the Head of State said his decision followed careful reflection and public feedback.
Wajackoyah says no dialogue
Wajackoyah also advised the youth not to accept any recently fired cabinet secretary back into the government if they get reassigned.
“And Gen Zs, no recyclee. Anytime you see anyone being recycled, say no,” he said.
The Roots Party leader noted the strength and independence of the Gen Z movement, stating that they do not need advice and have firmly opposed any dialogue ahead of the upcoming six-day multi-sectorial forum organized by President Ruto.
“Right now Gen Zs have come; they do not need to be advised. Mnawachukulia kama watoto. Mimi nimesema no dialogue Baba,” he said addressing opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The forum is set to begin on Monday, July 15, 2024.
President Ruto said the forum is important as it will propose the way forward for the country in these challenging times.
He called on representatives to submit their recommendations ahead of the forum.
“This forum will begin on Monday, next week and end on Saturday next week, it will be a 6-day forum and will propose the way forward for the country,” Ruto said
President Ruto first proposed the forum on June 29, 2024, to help address the ongoing protests.
In a meeting at the State House in Nairobi with 96 bishops, the Head of State called on the clergy to support this initiative to end the nationwide demonstrations.
“The proposed youth and multi-sectoral forum will give the youth and other stakeholders a platform to discuss these and other national economic challenges that face our country,” Ruto stated.
Raila Odinga reiterated the importance of the forum in resolving the nation’s crisis. He confirmed that consultations have taken place, and all parties agree that dialogue is essential for finding a lasting solution.
