Deputy President William Ruto has asked Kilifi South MP Ken Chonga to give him (Ruto) a visit in his office if he is seeking infrastructural development for his constituents.

Ruto who was speaking in Kilifi on Saturday, July 17 during a funeral ceremony jokingly told Chonga not to ambush him with development projects at funerals.

“If you want us to talk about the roads this constituency needs please visit me at my office and we will discuss the needs of your people instead of ambushing me at a funeral,” Ruto said.

The DP further wondered why Chonga, an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP, was asking for construction of roads in his constituency from the DP yet he is on a different side of the political divide.

“You are telling me this and that road has not been constructed yet your faith is on a side that has no development agenda,” Ruto posed.

The DP took another swipe at Chonga telling mourners at the funeral of Mzee Bishop George Mwangome Chipa and his brother Adam Goe Chipa. that their MP knows his residence and that the two have had tea before.

“It’s good you’ve said you know where I stay. I have not seen you since the day you and I had a cup of tea. I only hear you talking about reggae,” Ruto said.

In his speech, Ruto also asked Kenyans to rally behind transformative leaders.

“Do not support a leader just because he is from your tribe. Check on his development track-record.”

The DP regretted that some leaders were still stuck in old ways of conducting politics that is guided by hate, division and empty promises.

“Do not engage in the gambling of your future,” he explained.

The Deputy President was accompanied by MPs Richard Chonga (Kilifi South), Paul Katana (Kaloleni), Benjamin Tayari (Kinango), Owen Baya (Kilifi North) and Aisha Jumwa (Malindi).
