Two people were on Sunday, January 9 killed by unknown assailants who also torched several houses in Majembeni area, Lamu County.
This is the third attack to take place in a span of five days which has claimed lives despite efforts by the government through the Ministry of Interior to deal with the insecurity issue in the area.
K24 Digital has established that locals were forced to flee their homes especially after heavy gunfire attacks started in the areas of Salama, Widhu and Juhudi all located in Majembeni.
A brief report by the police revealed that one person had been killed in the attack.
“Terror event in Kibaoni, Lamu West in Coastal region. One person killed in an exchange of gunfire between security forces and jihadist in Kibaoni area of Mpeketoni, Lamu County,” the report read in part, shortly before one more person succumbed to gunshot injuries.
Most of those who fled their homes were forced to spend the night at Kibaoni market and in local schools while others spent their night in the forest.
It remains unclear who was behind the attack but police officers have launched investigations and a manhunt for the assailants.
It is worth noting that the government last week imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in some of the areas within Lamu County.
Two days ago, four police officers were killed when a vehicle they were travelling in was attacked by gunmen in Milihoi area.
