TSC announces 24,000 paid internship opportunities for teachers
By Cynthia Lodite, August 12, 2025The Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) has announced 24,000 teaching vacancies across the country for teachers who will take over junior schools to support the implementation of the competency-based curriculum.
In a notice published in the latest edition of MyGov, released on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, TSC stated that the new interns will be employed on contract terms and receive a monthly stipend of Ksh20,000.
“The Teachers Service Commission invites applications from qualified candidates to fill 24,000 teacher internship posts in Junior Schools to support the implementation of Competency Based Curriculum,” TSC said.
The commission is calling upon interested and qualified teachers to submit their applications through the commission’s portal before Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
“Interested and qualified candidates should submit their applications online through the Commission’s website, www.tsc.go.ke, under ‘Careers’ or teachersonline.tsc.go.ke not later than midnight of 9th September, 2025,” TSC wrote.
Qualifications for Junior Interns
According to TSC, the applicants must be Kenyan and hold at least a diploma in Education, with a minimum mean grade of C+ and a C+ in two teaching subjects in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
“To qualify for recruitment, a candidate should meet the following minimum requirements: Be a Kenyan citizen; Must be a holder of at least a diploma in education with a minimum mean Grade of C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in two teaching Subjects in KCSE or its equivalent,” TSC wrote.
Likewise, according to TSC, qualified candidates must be fully registered by the Teachers Service Commission, while further adding that applicants should visit the commission’s website to check their qualification record.

“Must be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission. For equivalent qualifications, applicants are advised to visit the Teachers Service Commission’s website: www.tsc.go.ke,” TSC noted.
Notably, the teacher internship is a one-year programme, according to TSC, designed to equip and sustain teachers starting their teaching service.
“The Teacher Internship Programme is a one (1) year programme meant to equip and sustain the competencies of persons entering the teaching service. The programme targets unemployed registered teachers to be assigned to learning institutions where their teaching experience will be enhanced through mentorship, coaching and exposure to practical teaching experience,” TSC wrote.
Stipend
TSC has revealed that the 24,00 posts are not remunerative engagements; however, interns attached to the junior schools will be eligible for a monthly stipend of Ksh 20,000, which will be paid subject to statutory deductions.
“This is not a remunerative engagement. However, interns attached to Junior schools will be eligible for a monthly stipend of KShs. 20,000/=. The stipend will be paid subject to statutory deductions, where applicable,” TSC noted.
TSC has noted that the recruitment exercise is free of charge while warning applicants against fraudsters who might extort money from unsuspecting persons purporting to assist in recruitment.
