Thursday blackout to affect parts of 9 counties
By Ascah Mwango, August 13, 2025Kenya Power has announced a temporary blackout that will affect parts of nine counties on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
In a statement released on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the company said the planned power outage is due to routine network maintenance.
In Nairobi County, the outage will affect part of Jogoo Road from Likoni roundabout, Buru Buru Phase Five, Makadara Law Courts, Uhuru Market and surrounding areas from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Other affected areas in the county include Nasra, Kayole, Spine Road, Mama Lucy Hospital, Naivas Supermarket, Nasra Estate, Sosion Estate and nearby customers from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm.
In Kisii County, the blackout will affect Gesusu and Masimba areas, including Gesusu Market, Moi Gesusu High School, Nyayo Ward, Kiomiti, Geteri, Riochungo, Masimba Market and Hospital, Bonyakoni, Metembe, Ramasha, Ekona Getengereirie, Olemilili and surrounding areas from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
In Nyeri County, the affected areas are Kiamuturi and Kairo, including Kiamuturi Market, Hon. JJ Kamotho Farm, Kairo Market, Kamagogo Market, Kasarani, Magomano and nearby customers from 8.00 am. to 5.00 pm.
In Tharaka Nithi County, Kathwana and Ciakariga areas will be affected. This includes Kathwana Market, Kathwana County Headquarters, Kajiampu, Komarock Hospital, Matiri Market, Kamarandi, St. Osora, Kithiori, Nkururuni, Marimanti Prison and surrounding customers from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.
In Kiambu County, the blackout will affect Bypass Kamakis, Greenspot and Versity Ville, including Gatong’ora kwa Chief, part of Sunrise Estate, Fairview, Ebenezer, Key West, Bypass Exit Eleven, Kinetica, Bamboo Street, Quickmart One and Two, Navas Supermarket, Galana Petrol, Shell Bypass, Bypass Corner, part of Northland, Green Valley Estate, Silicon Valley, Wisdom Towers and nearby customers from 9.00 am. to 5.00 pm.
In Kitui County, Ngengeka and Kalikuvu areas will be affected, including Ngengeka Market, Kavuta, Mangina Market, Kalikuvu Market and surrounding customers from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.
In Kwale County, parts of Samburu, including Samburu Town, Vigurungani, Banga, Mwakijembe, Kinagoni, Silaloni and nearby areas will be without power from 9.00 am. to 5.00 pm.
In Tana River County, the blackout will affect Mlilo and Ngongodinyi, including the whole of both areas and adjacent customers, from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Voi Town in Taita Taveta County will also be affected, including Kariokor, Mwakingali, Juakali, Bondeni and surrounding areas within the same time frame.
In Mombasa County, part of Nyali West will be affected from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. This includes Engen, Orchid, Vapco, Jocham, Government Chemist, Magongoni, Arkshandam Apartments, Mishomoroni, Kadongo, Kisauni, Mlaleo, Barsheba, Hongera and surrounding customers.
