Tears in West Pokot after man commits suicide following his brother’s death

A middle-aged man from Chesta village West Pokot county has committed suicide after his brother passed on.

Confirming the incident, West Pokot County police commander Jackson Tumwet said the deceased David Kortini, 39, committed suicide by hanging himself using a lesso on a tree at Maisha Kamili area in Pokot Central sub-county.

Tumwet added that the deceased’s body was found by members of the public today morning dangling on the tree.

“According to reports from neighbours, the deceased was seen the previous night appearing unsettled after his brother passed on after a short illness,” a neighbour said.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kapenguria County Referral Hospital awaiting a postmortem.

In another incident, a motorcyclist died on the spot after he was involved in a road accident along the Kitale-Lodwar highway at Sebit area on Friday morning.

Confirming the accident Tumwet said Moses Kibet who was on the motorbike collided head-on with a lorry that was coming from Kapenguria heading towards Lodwar.

“Maeritukei Domoki, 52, who was heading on the opposite direction while on a wrong lane collided head-on with the lorry and died on the spot,” Tumewet said.

Tumwet added that the motorcycle and the lorry were towed to Kapenguria Police Station.

The driver recorded a statement while the body of the deceased was moved to Kapenguria county referral hospital awaiting postmortem.
