Isaac Kibet Yego, one of the two suspects arrested last week over a false post claiming Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangí contracted coronavirus disease has been arraigned.

On Monday, police officers moved the court to allow them to detain the suspect for several days to complete their investigations in the case.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the 33-year-old freelance journalist authored and published false information about the Interior CS.

Yego was arrested on Saturday, July 25, alongside Emmanuel Kimutai Kosgei at Ngeria in Eldoret.

During the arrest, the detectives confiscated the suspects laptop and two mobile phones saying that they were the gadgets used to disseminate the misleading information.

“The DCI wishes to inform, urge and warn any person who, out of malice or sheer morbid hatred for another person, to desist from committing any act or attempt against the law as provided under the Communication Act that: a person who, by means of a licensed telecommunication… Commits a crime and will suffer punishment as provided by the law,” said DCI on Twitter following the arrest.
