Sunday planned blackouts to affect parts of 4 counties

Kenya Power has issued a notice of planned power outages affecting parts of Nairobi, Machakos, Nakuru, and Mombasa counties on Sunday, August 17, 2025. The power interruptions are due to essential maintenance works and are expected to last for several hours in the affected areas.

Nairobi and Machakos Counties

In the Nairobi region, areas along Kangundo Road from Joska to Nguluni will experience power outages between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. Residents and businesses in Joska, Mutalia, Kwawre, Malaa, Kantafu, Ngalaya, Kwa Makau, and other nearby locations are advised to plan accordingly. Key establishments such as Quick Mart Joska, KBC Mombasa, Kinanie Leather Industries, and all quarries and crushers in Mussini will also be affected.

In Tala, also in Machakos County, the power will be off between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. Areas affected include East Mart Tala, Tala Market, Kyamulendu, Kisukioni, Tala Ridge, Kwa Mutula, Sengani, and adjacent locations. Similarly, Kangundo town and surrounding areas, including Kangundo Hospital, Mukukuni, Kyavaluki, and Kivani Market, will have no electricity during the same hours.

Nakuru County

Parts of Naivasha in Nakuru County will also face planned power outages. The affected locations include Fai Amarillo, Lower and Upper Kayole, Nyamathi, Krungu, Roka Industries, Keroche Brewery, Kinamba, Maragushu, and other adjacent areas. The blackout will be in effect from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, giving businesses and residents time to make necessary arrangements.

Mombasa County

In Mombasa, the outages will affect the Shanzu and Bamburi areas. Power will be off from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Key sites include Bamburi Special Products, Shanzu Staff Quarters, Shimo la Tewa Primary and Secondary Schools, Sunset Paradise, Braeburn School, Shanzu Beach Homes, Bamburi Beach, and many residential and commercial establishments.

Kenya Power advises all affected customers to plan for these temporary disruptions. Essential services, including businesses, healthcare facilities, and schools, are encouraged to make necessary adjustments to minimise inconvenience.
