Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi has come out strongly to defend businessman Sam Mburu following remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who recently suggested that Mburu was benefiting from a business relationship with President William Ruto.

In a video shared on his social media pages on Monday, July 21, 2025, Sudi accused Gachagua of targeting honest businessmen for political reasons. He described Mburu, who is the spouse of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, as a seasoned entrepreneur with a long-standing record in the sugar importation industry, dismissing Gachagua’s claims as baseless and politically motivated.

Sudi questioned Gachagua’s knowledge of Mburu’s background, pointing out that Mburu had been involved in major business ventures for over 25 years. He noted that Mburu was importing sugar during the late President Mwai Kibaki’s era, continued under President Uhuru Kenyatta, and remains active in the business under the current administration.

Mburu’s business journey

He emphasised that Mburu’s business journey began in Kisii, extended to Nakuru, and later to Nairobi, building a stable career in the sugar trade over the years. Sudi stressed that success in business does not come overnight and warned Gachagua against maligning entrepreneurs who have worked hard to establish themselves.

Huyu Sam mburi alianzia biashara Kisii akakuja, akaenda Nakuru akakuja Nairobi, amekuwa akiimport sukari kwa miaka yake your wakati wa Kibaki wa uhuru na ataendelea mungus akimjalia,” he added.

According to Sudi, Gachagua’s rapid rise to power is matched only by the speed at which he is likely to fall. He accused the former deputy president of forgetting his roots and trying to discredit people who never sought political attention but contributed quietly to the country’s economic life.

Gachagua’s remarks

This comes after Gachagua told the diaspora that Sam Mburu had instructed the police to block Gachagua’s entourage in Subukia from addressing a rally, which led to tear gas being fired at Gachagua’s team.

Gachagua claimed that Mburu had issued the instructions due to his business association with President Ruto.
