Students at Moi Girls School, Eldoret on Wednesday morning held a demonstration against their principal, accusing her of high-handedness against them, support staff and mismanagement of school funds.
The students, numbering about 500, took umbrage over the closure of the school canteen, change of school diet especially the removal from the menu of eggs, meat and fruits.
Now the students, who are claiming that their diet consists of ugali and cabbage, are demanding the transfer of the school principal, Christine Chumba, and the immediate reopening of their canteen.
Further, the students accused the school principal of the mistreatment of support staff, claiming they were being caned.
Following the unrest, police were called to the school led by Niaberi OCPD Lucy Kananu who is currently addressing the students in the company of the principal.
Moi Girls School, Eldoret is one of the top national schools in the country and records impressive academic performance year-on-year.
Nearly all its students qualify to study in regular programmes in Kenya’s top public universities.
