Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have nabbed and arrested six more suspected robbers in Kawangware bringing the total number to 15.
In a statement shared on their social media pages, they indicated that the six were allegedly connected with the series of robberies targeting pedestrians and motorists along the Southern By-pass.
This, they say was achieved with the help of sleuths attached to the Crime Research and Intelligent Bureau.
” Six suspects have been arrested in Kawangware, in connection with the series of robberies targeting pedestrians and motorists along the Southern by-pass. Detectives employed cyber and forensic analysis, with the help of sleuths attached to the Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau to nail the suspects,” DCI noted.
During the operation, the detectives managed to arrest Messi Martha Mutioka, Tevin Njuguna, Edward Baraza Shikoba, Lawrence Gitahi Ndirangu, Kenneth Maina Chege, and David Lugali Asianja all aged between 21 and 32 years old.
Detectives also recovered 112 assorted mobile phones all suspected to have been stolen and one victim who had previously been attacked by the vicious gang along the highway managed to identify her phone.
This comes a day after DCI asked members of the public who have fallen prey to thuggery activities in the Nairobi central business district to file a report on the cases.
They made these sentiments in the wake of an increase in the number of robbery with violence incidences at the Nairobi CBD.
In a statement, the DCI says most of the victims who have shared their horrific ordeal on social media fail to report the matter making it difficult for the DCI to tame the vice.
“While many victims take to social media to narrate their ordeals in the hands of mugger gangs (which is good sensitization), we further urge them to formalize those complaints as guided, to facilitate the prosecution process once arrests are effected,” the DCI wrote on its social media handles.
