Police have launched investigations into a burglary incident at Mediamax offices in Nakuru County on Thursday morning.

The regional reporter, Kigotho Mwangi, narrated how he arrived at the offices in Erato Plaza, 5th floor at 7:30 am as usual, and proceeded with his daily routine when a middle-aged man knocked on the door to inquire if the office dealt with second-hand cars.

“The young man’s appearance did not match that of a salesman or a car dealer. There was something dubious about him. Anyway, I informed the purported ‘salesman’ that he was in the wrong place and he proceeded to the 6th floor of the building. I then made my way to the washrooms, ensuring that I had locked the door,” said Kigotho.

“On coming back, I found the door unlocked and the same young man who was in the office earlier was holding my camera ready to head out.”

On seeing the reporter, the suspect shoved him to the side and took to his heels but the journalist raised the alarm leading to the young man’s arrest as he exited the building.

According to the report filed at the Nakuru Central Police Station, the young man had earlier been arrested on Monday, May 18, for allegedly stealing laptops from patients at the Mercy Mission Hospital, Nakuru.

He was later freed after the Hospital dropped the charges following the recovery of the stolen items.

The suspect has been put in remand waiting to be arraigned.
