Senator Wambua explains why he skipped Kitui’s Mashujaa Day

Kitui County Senator Enoch Wambua has cited lack of communication and deliberate exclusion from the Mashujaa Day event’s planning as the reason for his absence during the fete.

Speaking in an interview on a local TV station on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Wambua said he had no role to play in the event despite it being hosted in his turf.

“It is true that I was not Ithookwe yesterday. And it is not by accident that I did not find myself there.  It is a conscious decision that I made. I was in Kitui last week attending several rallies in Kitui town. My own city in Kabati, accompanied by our party leader and members of the United Opposition and one of the things I did is that I asked people of Kitui to kindly excuse me not to attend. They were unanimous that I should not attend,” the senator explained.

Wambua said that he did not boycott the event out of malice but pointed fingers at the event organizers for failing to include him in the programme or even notify him in advance.

“Being Kitui Senator and Deputy minority leader in the Senate of the Republic of Kenya, I would have expected consultations prior to the event. That did not happen. The team organizing the event should have reached out and said. This is what you are going to be doing; this is how we want you to help us,” he said.

Ruto’s swipe

This comes amid speculation that the Ukambani led by Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, are still hellbent on President William Ruto’s extending an olive branch ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The majority of Kalonzo’s troops snubbed the event in what appears to be the Wiper boss’s cold water to Ruto even as he woos Ukambani with his charm offensive of development projects.

Wambua insisted that it was not his place to plead for a role or seek out the organizers.

“It was not for me to go and tell anyone. I hear you are coming to Kitui, please allow me some space. No, It was for them to tell me. We are coming to the county, and this is what we expect you to do for us. That did not happen,” he emphasised.

“To date, I have not received any invitation.”

The legislator argued that, as an elected senator, his role in such events should not be overlooked.

“I got grace and the voice of the people of Kitui. I am an elected senator. I mean, I can be identified, surely, without having to be invited,” he said.
