Senator Mungatana calls on Kenyans to pray over rising road accidents
By William Muthama, August 10, 2025Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana has called on all Kenyans to come together in prayer amid a worrying rise in fatal road accidents across the country.
Speaking on Sunday, August 10, 2025, Mungatana expressed deep concern over the increasing number of crashes that have claimed many lives recently.
“Hii Kenya yetu tuko na mambo yanataka maombi. Leo tumeamka na taarifa za gari ya county ya Tana River imepata ajali Machakos County, watu wamepotea. Juzi tuka pokea taarifa za vifo vingine 25 Kisumu. Hapa mbele ya viongozi ambao wanaongea na Mwenyezi Mungu, naomba watu ombee. Na pia wakenya waombee Kenya janga hili liishe,” Mungatana said during the public address.
Road safety responsibility
The senator urged road users to exercise utmost caution, especially during this holiday period when many families have their children at home.
“Nataka kutoa wito kwa wakue waangalifu barabarani. Watoto wako nyumbani, tuchukue tahadhari ili kuepusha maafa zaidi,” he added.

Mungatana’s call comes after a series of deadly accidents, including 26 fatalities in Kisumu, 8 in Namanga Kitengela, and others in various counties.
He stressed that these tragedies require urgent attention not just from government but also from every Kenyan.
“The situation is dire. We must take responsibility, both as leaders and citizens. Maombi ni muhimu, lakini pia uangalifu barabarani lazima tuuweke kipaumbele,” he said.
Police launch investigations
Meanwhile, the National Police Service (NPS) has launched investigations into the causes of the recent road crashes. The police confirmed collaboration with state agencies to ensure thorough and swift inquiry.

The authority urged Kenyans to strictly adhere to traffic rules, warning that reckless behavior such as speeding, dangerous overtaking, drink-driving, overloading, and fatigue remain major contributors to accidents.
Inspector General Douglas Kanja reminded the public that road crashes are largely preventable and called for collective responsibility from all stakeholders.
