Moja Expressway Company has announced traffic disruptions on the 27-kilometre Nairobi Expressway.

In a statement on Saturday, the company announced the closure of some sections of the road from Sunday, July 13, 2025, midnight, to Monday, July 14, 2025, midnight.

“Please note that some sections of the Nairobi Motorway will be temporarily closed throughout Sunday, July 13th, 2025, from 12:00 am to pave the way for the construction of a pedestrian overpass at Syokimau. Normal traffic operations will resume from 12:00 am on Monday, July 14th, 2025,” the company stated.

Alternative routes

Drivers heading to the central business district (CBD) who use the Mlolongo and Syokimau entrances have been urged to exit at the SGR interchange and re-enter through the SGR entrance.

Equally, drivers heading to Mlolongo are also encouraged to take the JKIA exit.

“CBD-bound motorists using the Mlolongo and Syokimau Entrance are advised to use the SGR Exit and re-enter via the SGR Entrance, while Mlolongo-bound motorists are advised to use the JKIA Exit,” the company noted.

Pedestrian overpass

The company apologised for the inconvenience caused as they construct the pedestrian overpass along the road, observing that the disruption could significantly affect traffic flow.

“Please plan your trips accordingly, as the closure will significantly affect traffic. Apologies for the inconvenience caused, and thank you for choosing the Nairobi Expressway,” their statement reads.

This comes after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced another traffic disruption along Mombasa Road as works on the Syokimau Railway Footbridge continue.

In a public notice released on Saturday, July 12, 2025, KeNHA said a section of the Mombasa-bound carriageway near Syokimau Railway Station will be temporarily closed for 24 hours from midnight Saturday, July 12, to midnight Sunday, July 13, 2025.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Syokimau Railway Station will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa-bound carriageway from Saturday, 12th July, 2025 (midnight) to Sunday, 13th July, 2025 (midnight),” the statement read in part.
