Sakaja impeachment: Babu Owino reacts after Ruth Odinga challenges Raila
By Cynthia Lodite, September 5, 2025Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has backed Raila Odinga’s sister and Kisumu County Women Representative Ruth Odinga over a clash on Nairobi Governor Jonshon Sakaja failed impeachment.
The Legislator took to his official X account on Friday, September 5, 2025 just moments after Ruth Odinga expressed her disappointment that Nairobi Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) were not allowed to exercise their constitutional mandate.
While backing up the Kisumu County Women Representative, Babu Owino firmly stated that Ruth Odinga had spoken his mind and that there is nothing more to add.
“Hon. Ruth Odinga has said it all. Hakuna kuongeza Jambo hapa,” Babu Owino wrote.

Ruth Odinga’s remarks
The Kisumu County Women Representative, on Friday, September 5, 2025, left Kenyans speculating about a possible political split in the Odinga family over the woes surrounding Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.
Speaking to the press, Ruth, unlike her brother Raila Odinga, expressed disappointment that Nairobi Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) were not allowed to exercise their constitutional mandate.
“One of the main tenets of devolution is that MCAs are overseers of the county government.
“Therefore, the fact that the MCAs of Nairobi came out and said that they had no confidence in the Governor of Nairobi should have been recognised, and nothing should have been done,” Ruth Odinga said.
She went further to argue that the process should have been allowed to proceed.
“They (Nairobi MCAs) should have been allowed to go through with the petition. So that, in case they felt wronged, they should have impeached him and sent him to the Senate. But to stop the process, when there were already grievances, was very disappointing,” she added.
Ruth’s brother Raila, together with President William Ruto, pulled the plug on Sakaja’s ouster bid as they reined in ODM and UDA MCAs.

Babu Owino faults Nairobi MCA’s
Notably, his remarks follow another on Thursday, September 4, 2025, where Babu Owino expressed regret over what he called an unnecessary delay in removing Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja from office through impeachment.
Speaking to Kameme TV, the outspoken lawmaker said it was painful that leaders who should stand with Nairobi residents had instead chosen to shield the Governor.
According to Babu, the excuse that Sakaja should be given more time to fix the county’s problems was nothing but a betrayal of struggling citizens.
Babu stressed that lives must come before politics, arguing that service delivery had collapsed in the city.
At the time, Owino said it was wrong to expect that a governor who had failed for three years could suddenly turn things around in sixty days.
