Ruto woos Turkana leaders with goodies during State House meeting
By William Muthama, September 2, 2025President William Ruto on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, hosted a delegation of Turkana County grassroots leaders at State House, Nairobi.
The meeting brought together leaders across various sectors, including those currently serving in the county executive, elected officials, business leaders, and former officeholders.
Among those present were ASAL Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul, Deputy Chief of Staff Josephat Nanok, and former National Assembly Speaker Ekwe Ethuro.

The meeting centred on strategies for regional development, socio-economic growth, and improved service delivery in Turkana.
Targeted development projects
Speaking through his social media channels, Ruto highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to transform the county’s infrastructure.
He said the overhaul of the Maili Tisa–Kitale–Kainuk–Lokichar Road is a priority, describing it as a “lifeline that will connect the county to greater opportunities and markets.”
The president also underscored a Ksh2.3 billion rural electrification project designed to expand power access across the county.

In addition, he announced the construction of a modern stadium in Lodwar valued at Ksh900 million and a Ksh2.5 billion expansion of the Turkwel Irrigation Scheme, which will put over 100,000 acres of land under productive cultivation.
“We are also powering Turkana’s future through a Ksh2.3 billion rural electrification project, constructing a Ksh900 million modern stadium in Lodwar, and expanding the Turkwel Irrigation Scheme with a Ksh2.5 billion investment,” Ruto stated
Ruto further highlighted investments in the county’s economic and social infrastructure, including the development of two modern fish markets worth Ksh700 million, upgrades to Lodwar County Referral Hospital, and the construction of Ksh2.3 billion in hostels to provide safe and dignified housing for university and college students.

At State House, Ruto urged grassroots leaders to accelerate Social Health Authority (SHA) registration in Turkana to ensure affordable and quality healthcare for all households.
The president’s engagement with Turkana leaders follows similar consultations with Kiambu County, demonstrating his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and coordinated development planning across the country.
