A year after his retirement, General Samson Mwathethe emeritus has built a modern church for his community in Kilifi.
Christ The King ACK Church in Jila, Ganze Ward was funded by the retired general and his friends.
The state-of-the-art building was consecrated on Sunday by Reverend Lawrence Dena, the first Bishop of the ACK Diocese of Malindi.
Rtd General Mwathethe also handed over ownership documents to the church on the same day.
Kilifi governor Amason Kingi took to social media to laud Mwathethe and his friends for their philanthropic gesture.
“The Church plays a key role in nurturing an upright society by offering spiritual and socio-economic guidance,” he tweeted.
“We will continue to work closely with religious leaders to ensure we spearhead spiritual growth and have a more cohesive society full of love, compassion and humanity,” he added.
Pictures shared by governor Kingi showed a fully completed church that is fitted with new seats ready for use.
General Mwathethe retired in May 2020 and was succeeded by Robert Kariuki Kibochi.
He had completed his four-year term in 2019 but was given a one-year extension by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mwathethe is credited with the formulation and the ongoing implementation of the Defence Policy inaugurated by President Uhuru in 2017 as well as the Gender Policy and Military Modernisation.
