Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has given a list of demands that President William Ruto should meet before he cooperates with government.

Speaking in Mombasa on Sunday, March 2, 2025, where he met ODM leaders, Raila also cited several challenges facing Kenyans, including the increasing cost of living, the cost of education and the health crisis facing the country.

“Our country has many challenges right now. The cost of living has gone up, the price of commodities is high, education is facing challenges, you can see the problems in the health sector and there are more problems for youth and women’s employment. All that should be tackled,” Raila said.

Raila says he has explained to the Ruto-led government other things which must be handled before any cooperation. Among the things Raila mentioned include tribalism in government employment and revenue sharing.

Raila also wants the government to tackle corruption as well as devolution, which he says has not served its purpose as stipulated by the 2010 Constitution.

Raila has accused the government of sidelining devolution and instead promoting provincial administration by denying enough resources to the devolved units, and instead funding provincial administration.

Raila also addressed issues of abductions and forced disappearances, which have dominated the headlines since June 2024, when Kenyans breached the parliament in protests against the government and the Finance Bill 2024.

Raila says that the youths who were injured and killed during protests should be compensated.
