Police in Kapenguria in West Pokot were forced to intervene and rescue a lady by the name Elizabeth Nalem who had left her matrimonial home and ‘wedded the holy spirit’ in a bizarre ceremony.

According to the woman’s husband Joshua Nalem, Elizabath left their home to a nearby shopping centre only to be alerted by locals that the woman was ‘wedding the holy spirit’.

“One of our neighbours called me saying that she had seen my wife in a wedding gown and on my arrival, I found her exchanging vows with an unseen groom,” Joshua told K24 Digital.

After the ceremony, the lady is said to have travelled to Amudat in Uganda for her honeymoon thereby deserting her matrimonial home. Her earthly husband was irked.

“Since she left, I’ve been taking care of house chores, and this is against our tradition” Joshua said.

Elizabeth is said to have returned to Makutano on Monday and was tricked to visit her home where she met an irate crowd baying for her blood for abandoning her husband. Police had to intervene to save her life.

“I returned yesterday after my honeymoon with my beloved husband the holy spirit and my friends requested me to visit my home where I almost lost my life to angry neighbours,” the lady said.

It took the police six hours to convince her to return to her matrimonial home with the husband decrying being denied his conjugal rights in the name of marriage to the holy spirit.
