A police officer based in Nyeri was arrested on Friday, January 21, after he was accused of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old salonist.
According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the woman who hails from Muthinga village, Gathaithi sub-location, Gaki location of Tetu sub-county was assaulted by Police Constable Benson Muchiri after he offered her a lift to her place of work.
“She narrated that while at Muthinga stage, she was offered a lift by a person not known to her, but whom she could positively identify. Along the way near Kagumo Teachers College, the suspect turned to her and raped her. she did not raise alarm alleging fear of the unknown from the apparent strong suspect,” the police report read in part.
The woman says the incident took place on Tuesday, January 18 but she reported the matter on Friday, January 21 because of fear of the officer’s official status.
“She was later dropped by the suspect at Gatitu shopping centre where she captured the motor vehicle’s registration number, a blue Toyota Wish and proceeded to Nyeri where she works as a hairstylist. She reported the matter at Nyeri Police Station and proceeded to Nyeri County Referral Hospital where she was treated and discharged,” the report further stated.
On Friday, the said vehicle was impounded at Gatitu area of Ruring’u location in the presence of the victim who positively identified the 31-year-old officer based at the National Police College Kiganjo.
“He was incarcerated at Nyeri Police Station pending arraignment before court on Monday, January 24,” the police report stated.
