Police arrest 2 in operation against narcotics
By Paulette Mboga, August 6, 2025Police in Nyamira County have recovered 260 kg of a substance suspected to be cannabis following a targeted operation along the Kisii-Sotik road.
The drugs were found hidden in 10 sacks inside a vehicle that was intercepted by officers from Keroka Police Station on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
The operation was led by Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC) Tobias Ombima.
According to a statement issued by the police service on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the vehicle had been fitted with a fake number plate in what appeared to be an attempt to evade detection.
Officers became suspicious of a vehicle that appeared to be evading routine checks. After stopping and inspecting the car, police discovered it was fitted with a fake number plate—an apparent attempt to conceal its identity and avoid detection.
Two arrested
Following the discovery, the two occupants of the vehicle were immediately arrested and placed in police custody. Authorities have confirmed that the suspects are currently being processed and will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded. The vehicle used in the transport of the narcotics has also been impounded.
According to the police service, the successful operation is part of broader efforts to dismantle drug distribution networks operating across counties.
“This seizure is a clear message that law enforcement agencies are alert and committed to cracking down on drug trafficking routes,” read part of the statement released by the service on Wednesday via X.

Anti-narcotics operations
The police have launched further investigations to establish the origin and intended destination of the illegal cargo. Authorities suspect that the vehicle had picked up the drugs from Kisii and was possibly en route to distribute them in other regions, including Sotik and surrounding areas.
Police say this latest bust highlights an increasing trend of traffickers using interior roads and modified vehicles to transport illicit substances. They have assured the public that surveillance and intelligence-led operations will be intensified across the region to curb the flow of drugs.
The statement concluded with a warning to individuals involved in the illegal drug trade, stating that such activities will not go unpunished and that law enforcement remains committed to protecting communities from the harmful effects of narcotics.
