Poghisho defends LSK boss Faith Odhiambo for accepting Ruto’s appointment

Former West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisho has come out strongly in defense of Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Faith Odhiambo, urging Kenyans to allow her to serve victims of protests, as she has already demonstrated her capabilities in the new position.

The former senator made his remarks on Monday, September 8, 2025, during an interview with a local media house, where he announced his firm faith in Faith Odhiambo.

While supporting the LSK President, Poshisho defended her past public appearances defending the people and Gen Z movements.

“I have faith in Faith; I think she has already shown as the president of the Law Society of Kenya that she is on this side of the people, the side of Gen Z; she has already been here,” Poghisho stated.

On his part, he also noted Faith Odhiambo’s speech during her swearing-in ceremony, in which he acknowledged that Faith is indeed taking up the new role to continue with what she has been doing in the streets.

“She has come out and told Kenyans that I am taking this job to continue what I was doing in the streets, to continue the work of the young people out there,” Poghisho said.

Notably, Faith Odhiambo was appointed as the Vice Chairperson panel of experts on compensation of victims of protests and riots by President William Ruto in a gazette notice on August 26, 2025.

At the time, Odhiambo’s appointment sparked debate among Kenyan citizens, who argued that she would betray the course for justice amid human rights violations during protests.

Poghisho calls to Kenyans

Poghisho, while calling on Kenyans to rally behind her, also asked Kenyans to allow her to take the mantle and watch how she behaves while at it.

“What are we looking for, really? Let her join this position, but we watch how she behaves up there if she is strongly for the people,” Poshisho said.

Poghisho also added, “Whether she is sitting with the President at the same table or not.”

Similarly, Poghisho called on Kenyans to allow two-sided decisions and embrace people who believe in a different philosophy—the people who can say, “That is not correct.”

“Let us try and separate what we are doing with William Ruto the person in his state and William Ruto as the president, because if we allow the people who are on one side to make the decision for us and we do not have people who believe in a different philosophy, the people who can say, ‘No, that is not correct,'” Poghisho said.

On the other hand, Faith, during the panel’s swearing-in, dismissed claims that by accepting the role, she had betrayed Kenyans. She expressed this in a heartfelt speech she delivered.

“As I take up this responsibility, let it be known that I have in no way betrayed your trust. Let it be clear that access to criminal justice remains critical to me in our quest to promote and protect the rule of law as an essential element in the enjoyment of the fundamental human rights and freedoms.” Faith affirmed.

Likewise, Odhiambo assured Kenyans that she won’t let them down, and the bloodshed by the companion won’t be in vain.

While further affirming Kenyans that she will keep them informed on the development of the victim’s cases, and she will not contradict the gains made by the country.
